Devan Weixler
Tenor
holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Music and German from Brigham Young University, where he discovered his passion for choral conducting under the mentorship of Dr. Ronald Staheli and Professor Rosalind Hall. He is the founder and artistic director of Canticum Lucis and finds great joy in sharing meaningful music as a conductor, composer, arranger, and performer.
As both a tenor and countertenor, Devan has performed throughout the state and abroad with numerous professional choral ensembles, including the BYU Singers, the Lux Singers, Brevitas, the Consortium Men’s Ensemble, Cantorum Chamber Choir, the Deseret Chamber Singers, and the Salt Lake Vocal Artists. His conducting and performance repertoire spans a wide range of styles and eras, from Renaissance polyphony to works by living 21st-Century composers.
Devan has been featured as a soloist on many occasions throughout his years of performance in choral music. In 2023, he appeared as the tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Wasatch Chorale, and in 2013, he performed the role of Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II at Brigham Young University. His solo work reflects his expressive artistry and technical versatility, which he brings to both the concert stage and the choral podium.
His conviction that music is a divine and innate part of the human soul informs his performances and rehearsals alike, inspiring those under his direction to pursue both technical excellence and heartfelt artistry.
